Basic EMDR Therapy Training
This EMDRIA-Approved EMDR Therapy Basic Training course includes two 3-day training sessions (Parts 1 & 2), and 10 hours of group consultation. There will be a combination of lecture, discussion, videos, experiential exercises, demonstrations, and small group practice (practicum). EMDR Therapy Basic Training is available to licensed mental health professionals or people working toward licensure and under the supervision of a licensed professional.
· Part 1 covers the history of EMDR Therapy, the Adaptive Information Processing Model, theories of Mechanisms of Action, and the 8 Phase EMDR Therapy Methodology.
· Part 2 addresses more complex issues with EMDR Therapy: Complex PTSD, Dissociation, Anxiety Disorders, Addictions, Chronic Pain/Illness, and EMDR Therapy with Children. Clinical tools are also provided for enhancing somatic awareness and affect tolerance.
· Group consultation is provided to support clinicians as they begin incorporating EMDR therapy into their practice. Each trainee will participate in five 2-hour group consultation sessions (4-6 hours after Part 1, and then 4-6 hours after Part 2). Consultation is provided in a group format with the trainer or one of the affiliated EMDR Therapy consultants.
Continuing education credits (40 CE hours):
NBCC: Julie Rosen has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7209. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Julie Rosen is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
NASW-MA: This program has been approved for 40 Social Work Continuing Education hours, in accordance with 258 CMR. National Association of Social Workers (NASW)-MA Chapter CE Approving Program, Authorization Number D-81229.
Learning Objectives for EMDR Basic Training:
Describe the 8 phases of EMDR therapy, the elements of the Adaptive Information Processing Model, and the Mechanisms of Action of EMDR Therapy.
Utilize screening criteria to determine readiness for EMDR therapy, and develop treatment plans to prioritize target memories for reprocessing.
Implement 3 different strategies to assist with blocked processing.
Describe 2 strategies to utilize when using EMDR therapy with dissociative clients, 2 strategies when working with clients with complex PTSD, and 2 strategies for working with clients with substance use disorders.
Use EMDR therapy to process recent traumatic events.
